Starting in June 2021 with another separate release following in early July 2021, Google updated how it measures websites, content and performance. This was a major update taking two releases to distribute content.
This update has serious consequences for website owners in that it penalizes slow sites, especially if they load slowly on mobile platforms. Releases will now focus on "Mobile First".
One of the primary metrics that measures the amount of time it takes to load the largest block of content. The target load time is 3 seconds or less to load LCP.
First Input Delay (FID) measures the time from when a user first interacts with a page to when the browser begins to respond. We came in #1 at 92.49%. WordPress came in 5th out of 7. There are other metrics, but these are the key indicators.
